Baby Alive Real as can be doll REVIEW

untitled design (2)

I’m sure every parent if not, most have heard of the baby alive dolls. They are dolls that imitate real babies and toddlers. You can feed them, nurture them, talk to them and change their diaper (Yes, they do wet). Well they are a bit on the pricey side, but they are great at teaching your little’s how to take care of a baby.

My daughter turned three years old on the 10th and this was her birthday gift from her dad, grandma and me. I was adamant about not buying one because of the price tag, but my daughter loves baby dolls and she’s great with them and with taking care of them. She seen the commercials and her big sister has some of them and she just fell in love with them.

So, this is the one I got her, because this is the one, she picked out about a week before her birthday.

Here’s what she comes with:

  • Outfit she’s in
  • Pacifier
  • Bottle
  • Hat
  • Soft blanket that you can swaddle her with
  • Batteries that are already in her

So, apparently, this doll has 80 + lifelike expressions, movements and real baby sounds like, giggling, babbling and other noises. So far, I haven’t noticed anywhere close to 80.
What she does do that I’ve seen:

  • Cries (Especially when you tip her upside-down LOL) and makes a sad face
  • Blows kisses when you put her hand to her mouth
  • Moves her head towards you when you talk to her
  • Nuzzles you when you hold her
  • Makes suckling noises when you give her a bottle or pacifier
  • She giggles and smiles when you tickle her belly
  • She goes to sleep when you rock her (Creepy thing is, when she goes into sleep mode, her eyes open back up)
  • She burps when you pat her back
  • Babbles at you when you talk to her

Here comes the part that everyone wants to know… The price.

So, for whatever reason, the three races that they have are all different prices. Don’t know why. They all do the same thing.

African American doll is $99.51 on Amazon (When I got it, it was only $90.99)

Mexican doll is various prices on Amazon because it’s only sold by third party sellers.
Prices range from $93.10 to $159.99

Caucasian doll is also sold by third party sellers.
Prices range from $69.68 to $117.95

During the holidays, all this info changes. This past Christmas, they were cheaper and weren’t just sold by third party sellers.

The only store I found to sell them was target. Maybe that’s because they literally just came out in August of 2018. I don’t really know.

Everyone that knows me will know that I think it’s ridiculous to pay so much for a freaking doll… Especially because most of the time kids ruin their toys. I was so adamant about not buying one of these brands of dolls because they are too much, but I caved because the look on my daughter’s face when her big sister wouldn’t let her hold hers, broke my heart. Besides, my daughter is really good with baby dolls and so far, since she’s had this one, she’s taken great care of it. Her baby even sleeps in a little baby doll crib right next to her bed, all tucked in.

Here’s my personal review of the doll:

I think it’s great for kids who love baby dolls and don’t destroy their toys. Do I think the doll is worth the price? Heck no. So, I’ll probably never buy another one. For over $100, I think this doll should crawl or be able to learn how to say actual words. Lol.  Do I think I made the right choice by getting my daughter one? Yes, I do.  She treats it good and loves babies. The look of pure joy on her face when she opened it was pure joy for me to see how happy she was that she got one of her own.  Out of 5 stars, I’d probably give it a 3.5 to 4 stars, only because I think it’s too expensive for a kid’s toy and should do more for how much it costs. Honestly, I think the doll is creepy. She’s got big eyes and turns your way when she hears you talking… Maybe I watch too many horror movies.

Here’s my three-year old’s honest review:

She likes it, obviously. I asked her, “Do you love her?” She said, “Yessss, she’s sooo cute!” I also asked her, “What does she do?” She said, “She cries. Look! She’s crying now. Awww, baby, don’t cry. Mama’s here!”

  1. These dolls definitely look like they are so real. My girls would really love to have these!

    1. They feel like they are real! The nuzzle into you when you cuddle them! Lol

  2. My niece would absolutely love this! As an aunt who loves to spoil her, this would make a great gift.

    1. It was a great gift for my daughter. Have fun spoiling your niece! (:

  3. I can remember wanting a Baby Alive so badly when I was little and that was just when they ate and filled their diapers 😂 I can understand why your daughter wanted this doll and she sure does seem to love it!

    1. I remember those ones. They do so much more now. I’m surprised that she never asked for one until now.

  4. Jessie, honestly, I was tempted to pass on this post but, as I read your sincere review, I paused and laughed out loud. I agree with you about the price, the creepiness, and what you get for that price. It is outrageous because companies prey on parents emotions to get them to shell out big bucks for toys that kids end up tossing to the side…

    1. Most my content I write is humorous and very honest. Lol. I don’t normally do reviews of things, but who are we kidding, who’s going to care about a review of a toy? Lol
I was just excited to see my daughter so happy with something so creepy. My daughter likes creepy things actually… Around Halloween, are carried around a baby doll that had only one eye. She said it was cute.. 😳

  5. Yeah! a little expensive. For that price the doll needs to grow too! Your daughter is too cute and i love her review.

    1. Exactly, you get it! Way too expensive! I don’t want this creepy thing to grow though. Nu huh. lol

  6. We have several baby alive dolls, but this one would be a bit out of our doll price range! I do love that they come in different skin tones because we are always looking for “medium” toned dolls for our multi-ethnic child.

    1. This one is more on the pricey side and of course this is really the only one my daughter wanted. Lol. I think think all the baby alive’s are priced too high, honestly.

  7. That is an insane price tag for a doll. My mother-in-law found one that was for pottery training for about ten bucks but she doesn’t make noise or anything. Sometimes I can’t believe the price of toys.

    1. Yeah, i saw a commercial for that one but my daughter didn’t want that one. She likes the baby ones that need snuggling. I tried to look for this one on yard sale sites before actually buying it full price. No luck sadly.

  8. I have a feeling I would find it creepy as well! My boys are very good with their toys too but are also content with the couple of baby dolls they have (that were mine when I was little!). I remember when my sister had a Furby and that thing was freaky, I can’t imagine now with how much technology has changed in those 20 years!

    1. I use to have a furby!!! They are creepy. The one I had spoke in Latin one day and from that day forward, he remained off and shoved in the closet. lol

      1. I threatened to throw my sister’s in the pool!

      2. OMG, that’s hilarious! Some of the toys people invent are crazy! Like who ever thought up the idea of a furby and why?!

  9. I had one growing up and loved it. When my son wanted a doll we got him one and he feeds it and just adores it. Its so cool but so expensive

    1. It’s sad that they make these dolls so expensive! They are just toys! And of course, most kids want these dolls!

  10. I really like to concept of Baby Alive. But I will be honest, she freaks me out a bit since she poops. haha! But I know my kids would love it!

    1. Hahahah! That’s what freaks you out? LOL It’s the big creepy eyes for me. lol

  11. My niece got one for Christmas and she loves it! They are kind of creepy though haha

    1. They are way creepy. Their big eyes make them creepier!

  12. oh my gosh my little one would LOVE something like this! great review my friend!

    1. My girls definitely love theirs! Thank you!

  13. If she loves it, then yes, totally worth it!!! I can totally see your point, though, about its being nice if it could crawl (or fold the laundry or do the dishes or something!) at that price point. I think their faces are so cute…albeit in a creepy sort of way (at least, it would startle me if they were following me around the room with their eyes…)

    1. I literally laughed out loud with this comment. I showed my teenage step son this doll and he said, “Why do they make dolls so creepy?” Right after he said that, the doll turned to him and then he was like, “Nope…” And walked away. 🤣🤣🤣
My daughter however thinks it’s the cutest thing she’s eating ever gotten. That’s so that matters. The doll gets turned off at night time though. Lol

  14. Walmart sells them cheaper I believe
That said I’m not sure they do all of those things haha. I remember having one when I was little. Fed it and it pooped. I talked myself into buying mine a My Life doll– the generic American Girl doll. Saved me a good $50 bucks and for good reason she only plays with the accessories without the doll haha

    1. I couldn’t find them at any Walmart where I live. Not this specific one anyways. I use to have an Amazing Ally doll that talked and knew my name. That was an expensive doll. Lol I don’t want to get the one that poops. That’s just weird. Lol
